Graceland

The common obverse or back for all the medals of the Elvis Presley Collection is a beautiful portrayal of his mansion, Graceland. The engraving for this design is so detailed that even the tiny notes on the gates have been faithfully reproduced. Two versions of this design were released, one with and one without the "$10" mark.

This design was not struck as a coin on it's own but was used as the common obverse or back for all the coins of the Elvis Presley Coin Collection. The original design called for a "$10" denomination to reflect the intrinsic value of the pure silver content in the medal. Production began according to schedule but after the first shipment officials at the Royal Canadian Mint realized that the "$10" mark was "inappropriate" and had the dies destroyed ensuring that no more pieces would be struck, ever. No other official mint in the world has ever produced anything like this medal in the past, nor will they ever in the future, making this piece nicknamed the "King Coin", a true rarity.

Demand for theses medals crossed over into two areas as Elvis Presley fans had to compete with coin collectors for a chance to obtain one of theses genuine rarities leading to a price appreciation that continues to this day. Many collectors purchased both variations, displaying them side by side, highlighting the difference.
