Welcome To My World Coin

Weighing 10 ounces of pure .999 silver and measuring 104 millimeters, the “Welcome to My World” coin (medal) is the largest ever struck by the Royal Canadian Mint. Creating this remarkable piece presented significant technical challenges, but due to the popularity of the design, the project was scaled back rather than cancelled. The dies, costing over $700 each, cracked after striking just two or three pieces. Originally planned for a mintage of 2,500, production was scaled back to only 250 due to the difficulties and expense, making this medal a true rarity unlikely to be replicated.

The design features three portraits of Elvis surrounded by an American eagle motif, inspired by his iconic jumpsuits. “Elvis Aron Presley, Welcome To My World” it reads in classic simplicity. The front bears the Royal Canadian Mint logo and the “FG” mark, signifying the collaboration between the Mint’s engravers and Frank Gasparro, former Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. Gasparro, who designed iconic coins like the Lincoln Cent Reverse and the Kennedy Half Dollar, contributed his expertise at a fraction of his usual fee, enabling this unique cross-border project.

This collaboration marked the first and only known instance of such cooperation between the two countries, adding to the mystique of this unique medal.

Each medal in this series is individually numbered and certified for authenticity, marked on the edge before leaving the Ottawa plant. Due to its size, the medal was not encapsulated but comes in a velvet-lined cherry wood case.

The “Welcome to My World” medal’s limited mintage and high demand caused its pre-issue price of $325 to soar to $1,000. Sold out immediately, it remains a coveted piece that is rarely available for resale.
